Take no notice of them, Freeas a bird, they are being paid to create an 'interesting(?)' program. The so called experts are just radio presenters giving an opinion. The most important thing is that you like Firepower and that is what counts.

Yes i agree with Bulbaholic,
Not long ago they said the monkey puzzle tree was a danger as it has very sharp spikes that can harm children,

Ive one i planted as a very small tree 8 years ago and "yes" it has sharp spike like leaves "but it looks really nice and i just love it,
gardening is like painting, some art i wouldnt give you a penny for and some other paintings just take my breath away and make me wish i could paint,

Gardenings a bit like art, your lawn is the background and from there on you fill the colours in to your liking and by the height of the summer it should be looking good to your eyes,

By the end of the summer, Mother nature takes over and as the leave's change colour and the countryside gets ready to sleep, Again you wish you could get the same effect as mother nature gets every autum.

Some people think a pile of house bricks dumped on the ground is art! (Thank god we dont all like the same things in life)

thanks bulbaholic and Dungy for answering my question.
I think you are right but needed to hear it from other gardeners, as thought there must be something wrong with the plant as it was so thoroughly 'dissed'.Something evergreen with changing colours is not to be sniffed at is it?So I shall plant it happily now.
Dungy you are very poetic about the changing Seasons, and correct in your opinion on a pile of house bricks not being art [I remember that once being displayed in the Tate Gallery years ago.]
I wonder why there are not many tv programmes on gardening just lately? It's all about homes and cooking now isn't it?

I stopped taking much notice of TV/Radio gardening Guru's when one of them recommended a particular Honeysuckle as being lower growing and suitable for an eight foot tall trellis. I had to go and check that it was the same one as I had just been looking at the flowers through binoculars, at the top of a 30 foot tree! It was.

They didn't all exactly pour scorn on it. They did say it looked nice in winter. It was partly the suckering they objected to I think.

I have to disagree steragram, as all the team were laughing and commenting in a negative way at the plant, as if it was 'beneath ' them. The suckering wasn't the problem, they said that only happened in warmer places and here it wasn't invasive. They just didn't like it for some unspecified reason.I listened carefully to this as I had only just bought the plant the day before. Not that it matters, because I like it anyway.

I was just trying to put a positive slant on it - I had thought one of the panel quite liked it . Anyway, not nice to have your choice ridiculed. I've been considering getting one myself actually but nobody round here seems to stock them
