I've no idea what the form is Jonathan - I had some slightly fungusy ones, but I just planted them normally. No idea if they'll come up though! Sorry can't be of more help.

Hi Bamboo. These are tulip bulbs, arrived in the post from JParkers yesterday. I am soaking them (at this very moment) in Myclobutanil/Systhane. They have some fungus on the outside, a blue-y mould which seems to have penetrated through the skin into the 'flesh' beneath. I am thinking bulb supplying companies ought to check their stocks carefully before dispatching them to customers to make sure they are not diseased. I am hoping the fungicide may help, and hopefully won't be too toxic to the bulb.

I think that's a bit outrageous - mine had a right to be slightly fungusy, they were old and I'd forgotten about them - I'd be most displeased if they arrived in that condition. Think I'd get in touch with Parkers about it.

Yes, I think so too. Will get in touch with them tomorrow, either for a refund or replacement. I must say though, I've been using JParkers for years and they have a very excellent long track record with me.

Well, no one's perfect! Maybe you'll get some freebie bulbs too;-))

Double daffofils quite possibly. Erk! My garden will look like telly-tubby-land! Or even the Magic Roundabout!

I have a number like that from a number of surplyers the worst from Jersy I have just put them in and I will bet they come as good as any one elses, I have allways put them strate in .it is not as if they were rotten how meny times have you replanted bulbs that you have slised some off with the spade lifting them they servive,

I would not accept bulbs like that from any supplier. I have had to send one lot back this year from a high profile seller. I said that I wanted a refund rather than replacements. No problem - a letter of appology, cheque for full refund and a packet of complimentary bulbs. I wll be ordering from them again.

J Parkers customer service can sometimes be really bad, be warned. I wouldn't bother unless you can't get them from anywhere else. Send them an email if you got them online and voice your concerns, you may be lucky.
As Cliffo says, bulbs are pretty resilient, plant them and hope for the best

Hmm, I'm dilemma-ing now. I'll email them tomorrow and see if they can send good replacements reasonably quickly. If they are going to take time, I might put these in. The good thing about tulips is that they can be planted late, even to the end of Nov as I understand. Thank you all.

i received some badly crushed lily bulbs last year and when i rang and spoke calmly to one of their sale teams she was fantastic. she appologised and sent replacements and freebies. I offered to send the lilies back so they could see the damage and she said no keep them plant them and if they survive you have extra. I use parkers a lot and although a few look sad, the majority perk up and thrive well.
I'd recommend their dicentras too, they are large and excellent value for money.

as I said earler I have bulbs like that from a number of places but to day I recived an order from j parker with a load of frebe bulbs crocus were sprouting but clean and hyersins realy nice,so it is just your luck but I dont think anything to get upset about, no I am not talking down to you ' you have a right to expect the bulbs to be right,my point is don't worrie you have not lost them, unless they are rotten,

Thanks Seaburngirl and Cliffo. It seems JParker is really quite popular with us and much used. I expect part of the problem is just our being in the late end of the bulb season.

I don't buy anything from Parkers now because this time last year I bought a £50 of Lilly bulbs.Half of them were 'fungusy'. I planted them all in pots 28 in all, put them in a quiet part of the garden but half of the bulbs rotted away. A large pottion of them were 'Regale' and none came up.

Oh no, that's an awful story. How very disappointing. I hope you were compensated.

it was not to late to conplain to parkers when you found that bulbs had roted, they are a big firm and the management carn't be every were watching all their employes all the time, I have no conplants about them ,yester day I was on the phone to them to conplain that I was still wating for plants and every one else had deliverd their orders , the boss himself came on the line and apoligised but said I am also a gardner and I consider that the ground is too wet to give the plants a real chanch, but you will get them in plenty of time when it is safe to lift and re plant them, he will do for me, I have delt with firms that should be bard off the internet, firms that treat conplaints and enquires by conpleatly ignoring them. you want there name PM me

Morning Cliffo, I have just received an email from JParkers. They are sending me out some replacement bulbs as soon as possible. All is well. Tulips are happy to go in late anyway. Best wishes.

Great result, Jonathan - and if you didn't have to return the ones you've got, stick them in anyway;-))
