I have taken a cutting of my sambuco nero black lace successfully, but the new leaves are green and not black

They often are, I would wait until the new leaves grow in Spring before really worrying about it.

i took a cutting about 5 yrs ago from someone or somewhere, it rooted and I planted it out one spring. It is still there, it is still no bigger than about 5" tall. And thanks for reminding me, I have just added dig up and put in pot to my list of jobs for this week.

Had to take another look Steragram, because mine was only about £5 off the market.I cut mine back abit begining of the year when it started to shoot in that early warm spell we had(remember!!!!) and havn't had many flowers this year, perhaps that means you cant have BOTH...a small bush with lots of flowers??Any tips be appreciated.(:0)Oh and welcome to GOY Veronica

Exactly, you can have the nice young lacy foliage or you can have pink flowers. Pruning for foliage removes the flowers.

If you want flowers and pruning do it immediately after flowering - you won't get the berries, but they aren't up to much, and the plant has time to make new growth for next years flowers. You still get the nice new foliage, just a bit later in the year.
