Looking for support from GoY

This has nothing to do with gardening, so I hope you won’t mind me asking this….

I have been off here for a few days as I have been rallying support for my local market hall, called Powis Hall (where I am a trader) to win a competition for a makeover. We had a leaflet distributed to every house in the town, and local radio, papers and TV have got involved.

Voting ends tomorrow. We were in the lead, but now the room that was in second place ~ nominated by Ruby Wax ~ has overtaken us with votes. I think she has got all of her contacts to vote for it :-(

So I thought….I can do that too! All my GoY contacts, huh, look out Ruby!

If you can spare 5 minutes to add a vote that would really help! Here is a link that will get you to the voting page, as their website is not easy to work through….http://markethall.27stars.co.uk

All you need is an email address, password and username. They ask a lot of questions but you don’t have to fill those boxes out.

Thanks so much, I know I am being cheeky but will appreciate all support that is given.

Anne

Thanks ladies....we are still ahead, so every vote important!

Voting over...I never realized I was so competitive!!

We won the voting by 51. Unfortunately that is not an automatic win, the top 3 go to a panel of judges and we hear in July. But surely they'll choose a community space in a market town? Let's hope so....

Thanks ever so for your help. :-))

I was wrong, we have been listed on the voting site as .....The Winning Entry....yey! How excited am I? Such an achievement for us.....Thanks again to all who helped. :o))

That's so exciting! Keep us posted with developments Pottygardener....and congratulations once again! Hope you are all celebrating there tonight!

We will be celebrating on the market today! This is such a fantastic boost for the market, for the town. We have had a lot of positive, favourable comments left on the voting site by local people. For a small market town to win a National competition like this is so uplifting. With so many shops having closed and the council wanting to build an out-of-town superstore/retail park we are 'up against it'. Now we have an ace up OUR sleeves!! OH...can't wait!

YOU WON!!!!!

oh well done hunny

now scream with delight

thats fab news

a poke in the eye for Ruby wax hehe

very well done

Mookins....I did!! Lots and for a long time!

Bob...My Deco, who ran the competition, want to visit us this week with the designers and get it on TV. I'll let you know what happens.

Gee....you've changed, I didn't recognise you! Lots of people were involved in bringing this about so they were all feeling good today too!

20 Jun, 2009

Thank you Pondlady, negotiations are in progress between the competition organisers and the council, who own the building. We may be getting a visit from the architects next week. An official presentation of the win is due on 15th July.

Hello PG,

I read this way after the event but found it very interestin.
Can you give us an update, maybe with photos - if there's something to photograph that is. maybe a b4 and after thing?

Hello Weeding.....Thanks for reading this, I wish there was a positive update. MyDeco, who ran the competition had a budget that was only a quarter of what they reckoned would need to be spent to do the work they proposed. That meant we were £150,000 short! The council match funded the budget which left us £100,000 short. The council were supposed to be trying for grants/funding for the difference but they dragged their feet on that and comments in the local papers about 'why has it been left to them to do'...Errr...it's their building ~ they own it! No-one else can do anything like that. I don't know if they actually have since applied, there is no news on that.
Sad, frustrated, angry....how I feel and others too. Our little ol' market town WON a NATIONAL competition.....the boost it would have given our town, the shops, the people...the market.....would have been immeasurable.

There is still some talk that things will still progress but...call me cynical, but I'll believe it when I see it!

IF there is ever any news, or work commenced you can be sure I will post it here!

What a pity, I hope you still do hear some good news about it. That's too large a sum for a fundraising activity isn't it.
