Prunus mume (Japanese: Ume)

Prunus mume (Japanese: Ume) (Prunus mume)

Blossoms of Prunus mume photographed from first floor on Feb. 13.
It is said that botanical name, 'Prunus mume' was named by Philipp Franz Jonkheer Balthasar von Siebold (German, 17 Feb,1796 - 18 Oct, 1866). At that time, the Edo Era, both Mume and Ume were used as the name of the blossoms. Only 'Ume' is used since about 100 years ago. The reason is unclear.
