Ligularia flowers...

Ligularia flowers... (Ligularia dentata Desdemona)

This plant gets eaten to pieces every year, and although the flowers are vibrant, they look scruffy, methinks its days are numbered!!

I like my other Ligularia...it's more compact and less attractive to slugs. The one with the tall spires of small flowers. Prezalwskii or something...The Rocket.

Yes I agree Karen, we have that one although it tends to pop up all over the place, have just put Britt Marie Crawford in the bog garden, for the second time!! turned out the first one was Desdemona? and one was enough, I fancy a change, will see what's around at the moment!! .........

It really shines out, such a shame its' days are numbered.

It has gone, and the huge Persicaria Red Dragon!! all thats left are cuttings in a pot.......looks so much better, opened up the back of the garden, and now exposed, just watch we shall have a really cold winter now!!

Oh Dd, I bought P. Red Dragon cause I liked yours, mine is so big now and has 2 offspring. But I have removed one of my pear trees and my Apple 'Kids Orange Red' the one in the corner. Now I have seen the light ! Hallelujah!!

OH my goodness, so that's two of your fruit trees gone, did they come out easily? I expect you already know what's going in their place?
Red Dragon does grow quickly, we have left a small piece in, it is easy to split, should it start taking over again...

The trees came out really easily, the apple was on dwarfing root stock (at 7ft?) and the pear just as easily. They were toppling over, so ladened with fruit and difficult to pick.
I think I might try to move my Kirengeshoma, although flowering well, it only has 4 shoots and has been there since 91.

Good idea, when we were at Abbey Nurseries we happened to notice a huge climber on their wall covered with fruit, it was a Kiwi!! it was massive, wondering if we have bitten off more than.........!!

27 Sep, 2015

Dd, was there just the one Kiwi plant? And did it have a variety name?

28 Sep, 2015

I would imagine it was one, it had a huge trunk, and was very well established, I will ask the staff when we go next week!! looking forward to their scrummy turkey with all the trimmings rolls, won't be long now lol

Their cafe is always busy when we go there, not often cause it's not that local.

30 Sep, 2015

They are very reasonable cafe and nursery and we get points too and you know what points mean!!
