Jacaranda (Jacaranda acutifolia (Purple Jacaranda))

We have a quite young jacaranda growing near our front carport and it looks wonderful when in full bloom - looking forward to seeing it blooming as it gets older.

I've seen Jacarandas in the Canary Isles - are they the same species as this one do you know?

I really don't know Spritzhenry. I do know that it is native to Central and South America but grows in many places around the world like India, the U.S. and Africa.

Yes Marguerite the Jacaranda and Delonix are planted adjacent to one another in one particular place on the property - behind the carport - and when they are in bloom it is a great sight when driving down the front driveway. I had to really dig my heels in when my husband was constructing the carport as he wanted to cut them both down,

Amazing to see, wish I could grow this lovely specimen !

Bernieh:

We have millions of these trees in San Diego, and throughout California (low-elevations only). It is almost the official tree of San Diego. When they bloom in Spring the city is just a mass of purple/blue. I have a 50 foot / 15.5 meter tree in my front yard.

It is my favourite tree I have to admit. Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, is like San Diego - the streets are filled with mature Jacarandas and very much like your city, it is just a mass of purpley-blue when these flower with the pavements covered in a carpet of blooms. In the suburb where I lived when living in Brisbane this magnificent tree lined all the streets and walking around that place was like walking on a flower carpet at times.

Bernieh:

I know how that is - as my 50 foot / 15.5 meter tree covers a large part of my front yard including over the walkway to the house.

It is an incredible sight to see a huge 75 foot / 24 meter Jacaranda tree bloom. They aren't "suppose to get this tall" however, I've seen them this tall in San Diego and in the Los Angeles area. I've seen some almost this tall in the San Francisco Bay Area.
