This is a small gladiolus that I am growing for the first time.

Hi Chris, I was given one of these late summer in bloom and told it was an acidenthera, didn't realise it had had a name change - is it necessary to lift them for the winter? Mine looks a bit taller than yours - its a good 3 ft.

Hi Rambling. Sorry not to respond earlier. Our winters are cold (It's -10C today). Therefore I lift all my gladioli bulbs including this one. I gather that folk in milder climates such as UK leave theirs in the ground, but may lose them if the winter is unusually cold.
