Why....

Why.... (Chaenomeles speciosa (Flowering quince))

..does nothing eat these fruits? I have a number of these quince fruits in the garden and nothing seems to eat them. They are completely untouched. Is there a reason why? They smell lovely.

As quince fruits are rock hard I doubt any bird would get their beak into them. Have you tried making quince jelly with them?

I remember 'scrumping' these on the way to school when I was a kid - 'yeuuuck' ! Ended up playing football with 'em....lol. Though I've often wondered what Quince jelly tastes like. Have you tried it Alice ?

I have now cut open the fruit! It wasn't too hard inside and it was quite juicy but so sour!! Yes, I tried it. As you say, MW, 'yeuuuck' - now I know why no animal will eat them :)

I've never made quince jelly, Alice, but a friend used to make quince wine and that was yummy with the most beautiful smell :)
