Pieris 'Firecrest'

Pieris 'Firecrest' (Pieris 'Firecrest')

Similar to the more common 'Forest Flame', 'Firecrest' has a more upright habit and is supposedly more floriferous - time will tell

The Nursery in Devon that I visited last week had a huge selection of lovely Pieris species, I can't grow them due to wrong soil. Very frustrating! Does this one get red new shoots like P. forrestii?

The new foliage is red but not as bright as P.forrestii. More of a light red, fading to pink, then yellow before turning green (the same as 'Forest Flame'). If you had your heart set on a pieris, how about growing a dwarf one in a large pot or half barrel in ericaceous compost watered with rain water?

I have so many pots that I could set up a courtyard garden and fill it! No space for any more, I'm afraid.
