How would you sharpen a razor on this Wagger, isn't it soft?

Apparently the edge of a slice of these used to be used like the old leather strops for sharpening cutthroat razors. Piptoporus betulinus Birch Polypore also know as Razor Strop Fungus. Picture on http://www.photographersdirect.com/buyers/stockphoto.asp?imageid=2131742
