I came across this witches broom while looking for mistletoe in and around Eltham before Christmas. A friend told me what it was. When I passed, it was occupied by starlings who were making a huge racket and I thought it might be some sort of communal nest. I wonder if any animals use them for nesting purposes?

Have added a close-up to my pix; any information is welcome as I write a wildlife column for the local paper. I think it's a horse chestnut.

If it is a horse chestnut might be worth getting some material and have it propagated, would have to be propagated by grafting though.
