My Tibouchina that was ripped out the ground. Really sad as it was full of lovely purple buds.

yes it apparently was too terible, we weren't at home and came home to this devastation at 10.30 pm

How terrible.... did you try replanting it? You could be lucky and save it even if it meant you had to cut it back to do so. Such a shame to lose a pretty shrub.

It broke off by the root, I am hoping it will start shooting again.
