This is sunset on a very warm January 11, 2009 day on Coronado Island...which is across San Diego Bay from Downtown San Diego, CA. The land to the right is part of Point Loma.

I know it's the middle of Winter, however, I was hoping to see a 'Green flash' during this sunset. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. A 'Green flash' is an optical phenomena which occurs just after sunset...it is pretty rare...I've only seen one once in my life in Monterey, CA on an 80 degree F / 28 degree C day in January about 13 years ago. They are generally more common in the tropics.

Marguerite, you have to google "Green Flash". It's too complicated for me to explain well. There's some really good photos from Santa Cruz and The San Francisco Bay Area on the internet. Here's some information on 'Green Flash" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_flash
