Winter Colour

I saw this display on my way into town, I thought it is very colourful for December (29/12/08). It has given me an idea for someone's garden. What do you think Gf? Does anyone have any information on this plant or other winter colour?

Janey had a picture of the yellow blooming plant on her site ..it is called Mahonia...this is what she said about it "Gorgeous lemon yellow flowers smelling of Lilly of the Valley...."
