Agave

Agave (Agave)

I don't know what this one is. We were given three of these plants, but I didn't see what plant they came from. I am guessing it is related to an aloe? It has small spikes along the sides of the leaves.

This plant is a variegated Agave americana. This plant will grow very large and produces many pups. The leaf end is like a needle (personal experience of being poked). It's a throbbing pain for a long time. Be careful!

Thanks for the info! We emailed the guy who gave it to us, and he sent us a pic of the parent plant. He said he looked it up and the parent looks more like a Variegated Caribbean Agave. He didn't know what type of plant to start looking for, so I guess that gave him the group to look in.

I have been poked by similar plants in the past, and I know what you mean that they hurt for a long time. I have a "pokey" plant next to my front door that hangs over the walkway. I cut off all of the ends of the leaves so no one would get stuck. We need to move it, but it very tall. I think it may be a type of drac. but not sure.
