Filming for BBC Gardeners' World 28 October 2008

The film crew were so interested in photographing the snow on the autumn leaves that we didn't get down to the "real" work until much later than expected.

We then had to remove heavy, frozen pots of slimy begonias, walking over wet, slippery ground, whilst talking to camera about what we did when, and why and how......! I sounded very breathless - but it was heavy work and we were trying to beat the clock. My fear was that I would fall over in the background whilst my husband was being interviewed, or that the pots heaped precariously on the top of the barrow would tumble off in full view of the camera!

We dumped the containers in a huge heap on a path - all yucky and wet. Then had to rescue some of them to show how we overwintered the begonias - talking through every stage. As expected, we didn't have time to get round to the perennials and tropical plants.

The cameraman who has been coming since May has been promoted to Producer/Director - and this garden is his "baby". He now wants to come through the winter and early spring - capturing various activities.

I had to go to a meeting after they'd left. My husband carried on clearing up - aided by his head torch. When I came back at 8.30pm he was just coming in telling our son "These torches are fantastic - we don't need to put a light in the shed now". We had a meal and a bottle of wine and went to bed early - shattered!

Wow. You coped really well with the whole day AND the snow!

I wonder if it was cold enough that everyone's breath will show up as clouds. Lol.

Could you please remind us when this is likely to be on TV and on which channel. Thanks.

Sounds like the Producer/Director should be supplied with an Honorary Head Torch. :o)

Fourseasons..

It will be on BBC2 - Gardener's World - sometime next year. Still a bit vague. They are going to have a discussion, back at base, with the serial producer to decide how they're going to play it.

A whole day of filming is condensed into 4 minutes of programme! They have been five times so far and plan to come more. Originally, they were saying that it would be a 10 minute slot, now it's 16...... or more. Don't know if it would be a whole half hour, though. Next week they will have finished their normal Gardeners' World filming for this year and can then concentrate on editing our films and deciding what's missing and how many more times they need to come.

They are interested in the snowdrops, and daffodils. They are really interested in the bark nuggets, which we put down every three years - we have 15 cu metres delivered and it fills the whole drive with a massive heap - looks like we might have to order some!!!!

They got me to talk on camera about the head torches - perhaps I should be getting commission, as well as you TT !!!

Yes, let's set up in business making head-torches ~ and special ones with flame-gun attachments for filming on snowy days. We could have a problem with health and safety there !

Looks like there'll be a Gardeners' World Special for your Four Seasons story. You'll end up with a whole hour programme all to yourself. The bark nuggets would be an adventurous topic. I hope the three years are up, and you don't have to order a whole mountain of nuggets especially for the BBC.
