This is a beautiful shrub or tree. It has neon-golden-yellow flowers that are very fragrant similar to a Plumeria scent. It is in the Apocyanaceae family which include such genera as Mandevilla, Dipladenia, Plumeria, Oleander, Adenium, and Carissa.

T. thevetioides has become very popular in the last 15 years, because of its drought-tolerance and beautiful fragrant flowers.

Terratoonie, it is true that more drought-tolerant trees here in San Diego are popular. We are in the middle a of horrible drought. We have not had normal rainfall in 4 years. (normal rainfall is only less than 10 inches a year)
and prior to that we had a seven year drought.

This photo reminds me of shrub that has been on the top of my wish list for about 15 years now. It's called a Cytisus Batandieri Pineapple Broom. Have you evers seen one growing around there ? If you ever find one, please post a pic of it ! That way I can periodically come back and loving gaze at it...lol, it will be the closest I'll ever get to having one...

Yes...in California most species of Cytisus grows very well. Many species are native to Mediterranean regions. I would think you may grow them there as long as it doesn't get too much water. For the most part they are very drought-tolerant trees which wouldn't want much water in summer.
