Hebe Addenda Petita White

Hebe Addenda Petita White (Hebe)

For my records. This is to fill a gap where an old pink Geranium was.

It's very pretty, I like the white flowers. Agree with Meadow - I lost all my hebes last winter, although they had been fine during the cold snaps before.

Julia, in that case I shall plant it after the rain we expect to have tomorrow and mulch it with some of the home made compost.

We registered 26 degrees in the car, quickly put the air con. on and the greenhouse was showing 86 degrees with the door and window open. I'm not complaining though, prefer that to the cold any day.

Ange, that's a real shame. You have suffered from the elements and the critters in your garden for a long time!

Julia, I put the potted Hebe on an outdoor table prior to planting and a Bee was having a great time going from flower to flower. Clever insects!

It'll be gorgeous in a year or two Shirley. I have a large white Hebe by my little pond. I've just pruned it back. What a bee magnet though.
I'm sure Julia's right, I've lost a few Hebes, lovely Hebe Donna perished in the very cold snap. Of course, I'm in the north and you're miles away in the south, so this will help..:)

I'm sure I posted a pic of my Hebe which never had a name, if you want to have a look..

Janey, I'm confused now as the plant label says height of 15cm(tiny) but the plant is already over 30cm in the pot. You would think given the name Petita it would be a small one, yet one nursery on-line claims it can grow up to a metre tall.

I found the photo of your lovely white Hebe and wonder if it has a faint hue of lilac in the white, looks ever so similar to one I had many years ago.

Labels can.be misleading, as you say, with Petita you would think it would be quite small.
15cms would be tiny. It is a bit of a conundrum.

Yes when the flowers of mine are newly open they're white, then fade to pale lilac.

Well I hope you can solve the mystery Shirley, I suppose you'll now be wondering if the spot you had planned will be the right one..:(

Well, I now think I know where it will be planted, that's when I have removed the APG (Anonymous pink Geranium) and a rather woody old Bowles's Mauve plant. It should have enough space to grow ... fingers crossed!

Julia, there are some plants I have to admire from afar as they will not grow for me!

That's such a shame as they are lovely plants. Win some, lose some comes to mind with gardening!

That's a pretty purchase, Shirley. I'm not successful with hebes, sadly. They are such lovely shrubs.

Kate, I actually planted this a couple of hours ago after digging up an old Geranium and a tatty looking Penstemon.

Only yesterday I spoke with M'land about plants that just won't grow for us. I love the Dicentra/Bleeding Heart but they don't like my soil one bit ... :o(
