I really don't like these...

Big mistake - headed for the green bin once they've finished flowering! They don't look anything like the picture on the sales site!

Oh dear, are they too light or dark for you?

They look pinker on this photo, Shirley. They're a wan mauve. I hate sugared almond colours and I can't stand mauve!

Yes, Meadow. Never mind. I thought they'd be subtle..

Ange, a wan mauve is not good, for Tulips or any other plant!

Not for anything, really, Shirley. It used to be a favourite for 'old-lady garments' and now I'm an old lady myself I don't like to be reminded ;-)

Julia, my maternal Grandmother was from Norfolk and called mauve, move! Tulips were Twolips and Cucumber was Koocumber ... lovely memories of her accent ... :o)

I come from East Anglia, Shirley, so I know that voice! All my great aunts had pronounced fen accents.

I understand others might love this colour, Klahanie, but it won't be long with me! The picture doesn't give the true pallid shades! Just as well we're not all the same in our likes and dislikes. I must say I can't fault their robustness.

I'll send you these when they're over, Meadow, shall I??

As you say, we all like different things..It'd be boring if we all liked the same.
But, yes, tulips or twolips, I always imagine fire engine red or garish pink or vivid yellow.
Ps. Loving all the little dialect/county differences, it's lovely!

I think they are very pretty but if you don't like them you don't like them :)

Here we call them Tewlips :)
and we call mauve purple :D

Ange, my maternal grandparents came from Thetford in Norfolk and, despite coming down to Sussex in their early twenties, never lost the accent. Nan used to chide us when we copied her ... in a friendly way!

I like to hear regional accents wherever they're from. When we first stayed in Scotland we were absolutely mystified by Glaswegian accents and vice versa! Now, no problem. Used to love 'Rab C Nesbit'. Anyone else watch that years ago? Our small daughter could switch from English to Scottish accents depending on who she was playing with.

Thanks, Meadow. No rush: we're rearranging some areas at the moment. Glad someone else liked Rab!

I think those Tulips are lovelye.

They look lovely. If you're going to dig them out Ange, why not place them in the front for someone else to take away. Just a thought.

Glad some of you like them! What's even more amusing is the others in the pot are now blooming. They are called "Pretty Princess" and were supposed to tone with these. Instead they're a screaming salmon fushed with darker pink and the two together cannot be ignored!! Not exactly subtle and not exactly the look I had in mind. Best laid plans and all that...

The thing about tulips is they have such hefty leaves. And these have a lot of them Ange. Do you think it's the green and the pale mauve that don't gel?

25 Apr, 2023

They're just an unpleasant colour to my eyes, Janey..

25 Apr, 2023

Yes, mauve isn't one I would choose either, I find it's a depressing colour..
