Salvia cuttings

Salvia cuttings

I thought I'd show you cuttings from Salvia love and wishes which I'll be potting up later.
They're so easy to do in water and take about 3/4 weeks before the first root grows.

In the glass rose base are cuttings of Salvia Amistad, I took over the weekend...

Janey, should I have put mine in water, rather than potted it up?

Great Janey. Glad you’ve told us it takes 3 or 4 weeks … I need to be patient! I did wonder as mine’s been in water for ten days but no sign so far. Maybe I should have brought it indoors? Mind you the greenhouse HAS been warm, but temperatures have plunged in the last few days.

No Shirley, it was already rooted. Well it was on posting..haha! These cuttings here are the tops of yours and Sheila's plants which were cuttings themselves. These need potting up now.
I think because we've cold temperatures now Sheila, they'd be best indoors where it's warmer. Do you prune your pink salvia in the autumn? I've so many of them, I love them and the scent of the leaves.

I wish I had thought to do these, so hoping mine facing the elements will survive!

Thanks Janey ... I have bubble wrapped all my pots of cuttings today and laid a piece of fleece over the top. I just hope they thrive through the Winter temps.!

Well done Janey.

Rose some are quite hardy, the Love and Wishes is. My friend has had hers in her garden for quite a few years now.

They should be ok Shirley, nice and toasty..:))

Thanks Linda!

My Salvia cuttings are under an old plastic vegetable box that belonged to our old fridge, and are in an unheated greenhouse. Fingers crossed......

Janey, that's being a tad optimistic ... :o)

Janey, I know I should probably wait till Spring before cutting back the deep pink Salvias, but some have grown so big and untidily that I have reduced some. Luckily there are plenty more!

Sheila, I passed a man in his front garden yesterday who was wielding a pair of garden shears and cutting back Salvia 'Hot Lips' by half. Dare I do the same to mine in the back garden?

That's what I've done Sheila, cut them down by half

That's a good idea Linda, makes a good cloche. :))

Hoping they flourish for you when you plant them out, Janey.

Thanks Kate, I'll pot them up till Spring, but that means all windowsills will be full..:)
