Pileated Woodpecker/(Dryocopus pileatus)

Pileated Woodpecker/(Dryocopus pileatus)

Chipping a hole in a dead tree in our forest just off the deck. It is the largest woodpecker in Canada. He can excavate the tree pretty good. These holes are enormous. I am not sure if he will nest there or not.
We also have Downy and Hairy woodpeckers visiting our suet feeders. They are all pretty noisy announcing their arrival.

I've never seen any woodpecker in the wild, but here we get lots of Crows, Seagulls, Jackdaws & Magpies. Though none of these ever enter the balcony.

We also get lots of Pigeons! 🥵 Though they don't very often actually enter the balcony, they do occasionally, especially in spring when they are looking for a nesting place. But the reason for the angry face is because of their droppings. They sit on the railings of the 4th floor balcony above us & their droppings fall into our balcony along the dripline. They are very slippery when the are wet, though I try not to tread on them after a little rain. They also fall on my plants that are near the balcony railings & even on me if I happen to be doing anything near the railings! 🥵
