Enjoying the sunshine..how old is he Paul? Does he go,out at night too?

28 Apr, 2020

He's going on 2 years old. I have to coax him out during the day to get some sunshine. He doesn't go out all night, but he'll get me up at 5am just before dawn to go outside for a few hours. He'll only stay on the patio, then come in for breakfast. He started eating grass I notice. Does your cat do this? I wonder why they do this.

My cat is 2 on June the 1st (as per adoption papers!) I’ve just let her out this morning at 7.15am to chase another cat from the garden, right up to the top of the bund hill...she was like a rocket! I’m still trying to get her to use the cat flap, Paul. She can go out but still a bit wary about the coming back in part. Thought it’d be useful for her to come and go while we’re out at work!
She is in the routine of me throwing a little scrunched up ball of tinfoil - about the size of a cherry tomato- for a good 20 minutes every morning, all over the downstairs floors/rooms. She loves to skid and slide on the oak floors, though, she loves when it lands on the sheepskin rug...she likes to battle with it - I’m not sure what state this rug will be in shortly!
Sorry, longwinded...yes, Eve has been munching and chewing on ornamental grasses in the garden, usually a carex one. Often after a short while, she miaows and miaows and then..sick! Up it comes along with a little food or just saliva. I’m not sure why they are doing it? I’ll,have to google this I think..let me know if you come up with anything. I’m off to work in a tick. Crossing over to Lincolnshire today. Best wishes to your Mum, pleased she is feeling better and getting back to her feisty self as you say!

Bathgate, I'm just butting in here to let Kate know the following info. I found on-line:

You may notice that your cat vomits shortly after eating grass—he or she is actually doing this on purpose. Cats don’t have the necessary enzymes to digest a large amount of grass, which is why it can make them sick. But in the process of throwing up, your cat also clears his stomach of fur, feathers, parasites or bones, which can irritate the digestive tract or even cause more lasting illness.

Kate, our old cat is sixteen now and still does it sometimes!

Interesting !!!

Oh that’s great to know, Shirley! Thank you kindly for this information, I really appreciate it. I did wonder, it was horrible to hear her miaowing almost like a sort of crying! I’m pleased it’s all for beneficial reasons. Your poor old cat, 16 too! Well, it must be something they have to do, even when they are getting older..thank you again, Shirley x

Very pretty cat

Thanks Kate. Mom is doing much better now, but I'm thinking of hiring a live in nurse to take care of her better. I read that cats eat grass to 'up-chuck' fur balls. I need to be careful about which plants he noshes on because some plants could be detrimental.

That's what I suspected Shirley. It had something to do with clearing the GI tract of fur, feathers, etc. I just need to watch him because some plants look like grass but could actually be poisonous.

Thanks Aleyna. He is a handsome fella.

That's interesting Trup. Lately I've noticed hawks circling above. Are they planning a siege? Reclaiming what was theirs.

Life is certainly different, I’ve only seen a few aeroplane trails in the sky recently..plus all the other positive changes to the environment. Hopefully we will learn from things and change how we do things after covid..

Thanks Kate: comforting to know that Costello's antics aren't unique. Eve sounds like she has a fabulous home with lots of toys, love & treats.

Thank You everybody.

Thanks Paul, I’m just pleased she is settling well. She’s protecting her territory at the minute..gosh, she can shoot up that hill in no time at all - chasing the other cats.

Pleased your Mum is doing better. I guess the thought of hiring a nurse is on your mind right now, it’s maybe best for her and for yourself. I’m sure you’re doing a fab job, I don’t think a nurse could do any better as such..just that it’s difficult to cope 24/7 with everything. No one can do that.

Yes, I think a nurse would be better at certain things. Thanks for your good thoughts I really appreciate it. Planted out my tomatoes today. I'm looking forward to a huge crop of fresh tomatoes and produce- that's my 'medicine'. :)

I understand what you mean Paul.
I do love tomatoes, my maternal grandfather, we called him Papa, he was a grower of tomatoes, in abundance. I’ve fond memories of his lovely garden, workshop and greenhouse. He had his veg patch too. I always remember the street where he and my grandmother lived, all the pretty front gardens too..hydrangeas, bedding plants, neat lawns..except Mr Ward. He grew veg front and back! His front garden was always a potato patch! The whole lot!

He sounds like a smart guy your Grand Dad. Sounds like you have fond memories. That's great.
