I hate Lily Beetles!!!

They are a major pest when grow in the ground less of a problem if the lily bulbs are in containers I wash them in the autumn to remove all the soil this also removes the overwintering eggs.

I only made that comment becuse your martagons look so pristine. My hybrid Fairy Morning is just stem.

Yes I know what you mean I have a white one ruined the beetles seem to concentrate on that even though they are sprayed

The Lilies in the photo above are lovely! I had some Lilies growing on the balcony for a few years but little by little they stopped flowering & I emptied out the pots as I have no room for plants that don't perform. I'd left them a couple of years hoping for the best but in the end they came to nothing. Strangely though I don't remember having seen these beetles on my plants while on the balcony. However they were attacked while on the allotment which is why I brought them home, I thought I could keep a better eye on them if they were on our balcony.

My son had problems with the Lilies in his garden & the Lily Beetle. The first year he managed to keep on top of them but the 2nd year they were destroyed.

The beetle has arrived in Scotland now. :( But it hasn’t reached me yet. I shall enjoy my lilies while they thrive, but I can’t see myself picking beetles off my plants by hand, so I’ll probably give up on lilies one sad day.
