If I recall right when I bought one it said it smelt like chocolate

Hi Sheila, Akebia quinata, or chocolate vine, is supposed to have a scent like vanilla, and if you have another cultivar nearby, it can be pollinated, and produce edible fruits which look like sausages, Derek.

It did have a very sweet scent but couldn't put a name to it. More like an old rose. I'd love to be able to try the fruits Derek but mine is the only vine around as far as I know.
