Amaryllis belladonna 'Rose Fonce'

Amaryllis belladonna 'Rose Fonce'

While there is a regular fly on the flower, to the right is a hoverfly coming in for a landing.
This is several shades darker than the normal belladonna, and several weeks earlier in flowering.

Thanks. I wish I had had my camera with me this morning when there were a couple of buzzards flying low and hunting. I am on a knoll, so after they come over the little valley behind me, they end up being low over my backyard.

Oh wow, I bet that was a sight.

That would of made a fantastic photo . I once was right next to a big black buzzard at Coombe Abbey park here it was on an open perch in the grounds.

During mating season, there are 7 of the guys chasing 1 female. They like the area just up the street because it continues to Serra de Santa Barbara, the highest point on the island - just over 1000 meters high.

The most amazing event is when they catch the wind blowing so strong that they can stay in the same place without flapping their wings.
