East side of house empty of plants, but for the three rose bushes against the wall. At this stage I wasn't even sure if they were alive or dead. Turns out they were very much alive.

Oh yes. We only get decent rain during our monsoon season (mid July -mid August) with just a few other sprinkles here and there and other bits of water such as an unexpected snowfall. Though empty of plants (except the rose bushes on the house), the lawn is quite full in this area its just in a dormant state.

This photo is of "Roses" in Gardengnome's garden
Quite a canvas there. I assume in your area you must be careful about the plants you use. Even here being in a 3 year drought it's difficult to grow some things.
