Red Headed Woodpecker

Red Headed Woodpecker

A very uncommon visitor. They used to be plentiful but their numbers have dropped.

"Certainly looks like the description on the tin"! Great photo Paul. Shame the numbers of so many lovely creatures are diminishing these days.

Thanks Alan. Yes I agree. Many plants as well are near extinction. Very sad.

Beautiful. I've never seen one, although we do see downy WPs all the time and I had three pileated WPs in my oak tree one morning. A nest in your tree would be lovely!

I haven't seen one either until the other day when I looked out my kitchen window to see one feeding at the bird feeder. I had to do a little research to find out what it was.

I'll see what I can do...;o) Can't promise though, they scare so easily, and my photographic skills aren't always that great...! :D
