Archontophoenix alexandrae - Alexandra or Alexander Palm

This is a very common palm here in San Diego, CA. I started this tree for a seed about 8 or 9 years ago. It's 25' (7.6 m) tall and is still a baby and enjoying the 80ºF (27ºC) weather today. This northern Queensland, Australian native can grow to more than 70' (21 m) tall in time. Photo taken Feb. 2, 2015.

Even though, A. alexandrae is a 10B hardy palm. I think it would do well in the more mild areas of the Bay Area, like Hayward. It just needs a little more protection when the colder than average temps visit.

All of the Archontophoenix species are great looking palms. I stick with the hardiest, A.cunninghamiana as safest long term..but the more tender Alex palm or the purple crownshafted Alex palm are tempting.
Although, the last 2-3 years is tempting me out of my comfort zone. Like with the Crotons...
