rather than stake each stem, I put canes in the corners and joined them with plastic-covered wire for the stems to lean against. So they can still grow as they like without being tied to stakes

Yesterday in a traffic jam we slowly passed a huge buddlia nearly as tall as a house!! Don't usually manage to notice these things but the roofless car further up the road was a bit of a shocker. OH just said not many flowers on it! Your way is one way to keep this plant under control Fran.

the label said it can grow up to three metres tall and wide - if I'd seen that at the time, I might have thought twice about buying it! The only on I tried before was the new Buzz, a mini speicies; it didn't last, maybe I might have better luck with one here

roofless car? by accident, or is it being used as a planter??

Posh 4 wheel drive with the roof cut off and the front stove in. No sign of any other vehicle that it hit. Probably a centurion tank at 60MPH by the look of it. I would make a good planter in the middle of an accident blackspot. A stark reminder not to go too fast. It took us about quarter of an hour to get past the buddlja! So lots of time to gaze in wonder at the size of it.

that sounds a bit naughty - has it been there long? I mean, did the driver just abandon it and leave it there? mind you, the driver might not have been the owner!

Someone on GoY put up a pic of a taxi-turned-planter - I think it said htat there was some work in removing anything hostile to plants, oil, petrol, whatever, before it could be planted.

But a car planter would be a good use of the wreck - as well as a reminder of what thinking you're Stirling Moss might lead to
