Dayliy 'Octopus Hugs x Helix'

This is the one I told you about Wylie with the gold edge, quite a sight this morning with 2 flowers open together, love it but in my excitement to take a picture yet again I forgot to measure it!!! it is pretty big though and love the way the petals curl back, next time I'll remember the measurements lol, you can only measure to where it curls though can't you, if that makes sense.
Better colouring on that pink one too but it wasn't open fully at 9.30 this morning :-)

I've only just noticed its got a polymerous flower too!!!

Don't you love it when it goes poly. This does make a great sight. The only time you get to touch a flower when measuring, is for the spider ratio of the length of the longest petal (no touching for the width). This looks like a UFO Cascade type.

This is gorgeous! Did you cross it?

Simbad, as an Hemerocallis aficionado, are you able to say when the blooms are above the leaves and when they nestle in them? One of my Daylilies has blooms that are lost in the foliage. It is just a young plant! or do you think it is the variety form. I must try to find the name label.

Thanks Wylie for you guidance :-) I thought a UFO as the petals are to wide for a spider but ooo yes I see now it is a cascade form as well , definitely be keeping this one :-)
Thanks Siris this was'nt from my own cross I was sent the seed from the American Hemerocallis Society a couple of years ago, since then I've joined the BHHS and they distribute seed free to their members a couple of times a year sent to them from the same source, also Wylie's sent me lots, last year was my first year of crossing my own, still lots to learn :-)
I don't know if there's a specific name for when the flowers are carried low down, Wylie might know, but not a good trait, I only have one that does it, so annoying its been threatened with the compost and that's where it'll be going this year as yet again the flowers are hidden, I've moved it to a better position and still they're opening low down, if its a new plant I'd give it another year to see if it improves, and yes see if you can find the label so we can let you know if its a normal trait, there's a database we use that tells us heights etc.

I think the technical term for a flower that is low in the foliage is: Compost (heh, heh).
You are probably right, it just needs to settle in.

Thanks Wylie Lol, will see how it goes. One of the good things about taking photos for Gou, it makes one look with a fresh eye at plants and reassess the route to the compost heap.
Ps, I do have the book Daylilies by Diana Grenfell from Applecourt nurseries which is about 20 miles from us. Will read the book more closely again!

Oooo lucky you Siris living so near to Applecourt I've had some lovely dayliles I bought online from there.
There is another lovely book The New Encyclopedia of Daylilies by Petit and Peat, some fabulous ones in there even a section on daylilies of the future that are being trialled now, I could look at it all day lol.

I assume Applecourt is still going, haven't been there for years, bought Hosta "Sea Octupus" there, still got it, slugs love it. The hemerocallis, I have found , uncared for and unloved, but I have exposed it, watered it and apologised! The leaves are 23" and looking at the photo I took last year, it is a creamy/peachy yellow double/semi with a pink eye. I can't find the label, but a hand written one said Pandoras Box which it obviously is not, unless I am looking at the wrong plant. I would post the pic but the neglect would shame me! Looks a bit like Little Fruit Cup to my untrained eye.

It was 2 years ago Siris when I last bought a plant from there :-)
My first thought from your explanation was 'Forty Second Street' which strangely is one that I bought from Applecourt, first flowers can often be single but it gets more double as the season goes on mines flowering now too, must get a picture, it is one that's quite readily available, thinking about it the flowers are quite low down on it too although not hidden, I'll take a picture tomorrow if any are open, todays have been ruined by the rain, I know Wylie has it too and Gnarleygnome as we did a swap last year.

Mine has been single since it is still trying to settle in.

It does seem to be a strange one Wylie, yesterday mine had single and semi double flowers open together but no really frilly ones yet this year.
