Osteospurnum growing mad under the privet hedge

I leave these alone, I'm a bit of a butcher as they grow so mad under the privett and into the little bit of grass that I have, I often go over them with the lawn mower. It doesn't seem to do them any harm.

I just love these little buggers. Wonderful color. Do they over winter for you, or is this an annual treatment?
