Sparrowhawk4

Suddenly he spotted me and took off across the fence. I think it was a starling he caught, poor thing, but I was relieved it wasn't my little Hoppity.

Amazing set of photos Gee, hope you are right, and hope hoppity wasnt a blackbird..suspiciously like a blackbird's tail feathers...

I saw Hoppity about an hour later, Tetrarch, although I haven't seen her mate yet. The bird seemed very 'speckled' and I saw several starlings making a getaway before I took the photos. I will just have to wait and see, I suppose.

The sparrowhawk was about 15 feet away, Yorkshire, and I was taking the photos from the kitchen. Must admit, I felt a bit squeamish :(

Probly a starling then Gee, and they are devils for the water..always having a bath! I saw a sparrowhawk take a dunnock once..I was watching the little hapless bird thru bins and nearly jumped at mile when the hawk appeared in my lenses..shame no camera. But it wouldnt have been as good as this! She really is a beautiful bird..have to watch out for her mate, if there is one around. We have one here.

Brilliant series, Gee. Talk about in the right place at the right time - glad you were able to overcome your squeamishness to take them.

Thanks everyone. I saw Hoppity and her mate Freaky this morning so they are safe, thank goodness. I don't think David Attenborough has anything to worry about, PP, but I do sometimes envy him :)
