Hi Resi, welcome to GoY! I grow quite a few roses too. I have this one, planted it last year and it flowered ...absolutely wonderful isn't it? So huge the flowers and so strong and healthy. I love it! I started growing roses when I saw 'Rhapsody in Blue' in a catalogue. I started with that one and 'Iceberg' and I've not stopped since! Interested to see the dark red one...Souvenir...flowers in shade...I love the look of it, and I have quite a lot of shade in my garden, so I may have to add that one to my collection! My new ones for this year, just planted, are....Dortmund, Warm Welcome, Benjamin Britten, Crown Princess Margareta and William Morris....can't wait Resi!! :)) Sorry, I can't i.d. your rose in your question, but it's a nice one! Karen

thanks for the welcome Karen, i am totally new to this stuff and its lovely to see some response
btw if and when i start planting clematissi (?) i will know where to go for advice, did i see right, you have about 80 in your garden??
i have been trying to grow my own roses from cuttings, which take well here, i was told its just a matter of cutting right length twigs in november and sticking them into the ground, -very heavy clay- and strictly not to touch/pamper, i did and from the 10 orso i experimented with 2 came up and one survived, this year i managed a 7 out of 10 successrate, Mme Isaac being one of them,
it gives you such a fantastic feeling to grow your own rose

Wow! Well done! What a great thing to be able to do. If it weren't for the fact I can't resist having all different types I might try it myself! I suppose I could do some for friends though....mmmm..may just do that!

Yes, I do have over 80 clems. I'm trying hard to stop collecting them now. I only have 1 on my wish list! Some of them grow like mad for me and some are spindly and pathetic. I guess that's life though with clems. Some of them are a bit moody. Most are stunning, especially the type 3 ones, particularly the viticellas which are great for growing up trees and give you lovely colour in late summer. :))

Hi Resi, welcome to GOY. This is a great site to find out about plants and to share ideas. We talk a lot about animals and art too, don't we girls? (Karen and Lulu)

Oh yes! indeed we do! there's a lot of 'talking' about all kinds of things goes on on here Resi!

You have lovely, vigorous growth on your climbing rose. It is great that you can get cuttings to grow so well...an advantage with your soil I would assume.

I'm a sucker (groan!) for old-fashioned Roses and have the good Docteur on a shady wall in my back garden - what a fabulous flower!
Lovely photo. Is your nestbox in use?

28 Jun, 2012

thank you kindly sir
oh you spotted the docteur
yes she is a dark lady and a stunner, she has shade from about 11am onwards but i reckon she can take a lot more in this climate.
and no the nestbox hasnt got an occupant although it is facing north east, maybe the flypath isnt to anybodybirds taste, right under the overhang.
but we often have temporary occupants, as in the photo i will post right now..
