Brazilian Fern Trees (Schizolobium parahybum)

Brazilian Fern Trees (Schizolobium parahybum) (Brazilian Fern Trees (Schizolobium parahybum))

Looking up at the tall Brazilian Fern trees at the San Diego Zoo. They look a little sparse this year. This is a popular, extremely fast growing tree in coastal California. Photo taken Oct. 27, 2010.

Tugbrethil:

No, it's in the Leguminosae (Fabaceae) family, not the Bignoniaceae family. It has big clusters of yellow flowers in spring.

Wow! But the seed pods and the opposite leaves looked so much like Jacaranda! Convergent evolution, maybe? Or bad eyesight on my part! ; )

Tugbrethil:

I'll post a pic of a smaller tree. You'll be able to see the difference. :>)
