Another hardy pelargonium!

Pelargonium ionidifolium. A lovely little pelargonium that is a lot hardier than literature states. It flowers profusely from late spring right through to early autumn (in my garden). It is planted on one of my raised beds. The soil is well drained but other than that, it gets no other protection. Last winter, all the pelargoniums planted on my raised beds died back but grew again from the roots. I must have got the drainage right! So far, I have grown (with no protection at all): P. sidoides, P. ionidifolium, and P. abrotanifolium on raised beds.

Thank you for your kind comments. Now that I have completed the raised beds, I will take some photos of them. I built them myself (took me ages!): they look okay really, considering I am not a builder, but I do like to have a go at things. If you do fancy trying any of the Pelargoniums I grow, then you would need to re-pot them into well drained compost (I use peat free compost with added grit and some topsoil) and put them outside in their pots from around March to harden them off. Mine are planted in the raised beds and are given no overhead protection at all.

I'll take a look to see if any of your photos show your raised beds as I am considering putting raised beds into our garden. You are doing well with your variety of planting amongst your rockery, GDad.
