Senegal Date Palms growing in Mission Bay Park, San Diego, CA. on Feb. 26, 2010. For my palmate Mushybanna. Very large old clumps can have 30 - 60 trunks.

Yes, it's very common for them to have curved trunks. These trees had been thinned out recently. I'm sure, they had many more trunks. It's common practice to thin the trunks out because they can have 60+ trunks in one clump.
