Goodness me, a true purple in a rose. I don't like roses much, but this one's so unusual I might be tempted... how big does it get?

It can grow to 3 feet, Bamboo. Mine, at present is just 2.

I forgot to ask if there's any fragrance to it?

Yes Bamboo. Nice. Incidentally, it was 2003 Rose of the Year.

Another query though, Ponty - those leaves in the pic, are they the leaves of the rose, and if so, has it got black spot?

Yes, I’m afraid it is Bamboo but I don’t think it is particularly susceptible. I have had it about 5 years and this year is the first time it has had Black Spot. This, in fact, applies to all my roses including my pet Superstar and my Grandmere Jenny which I have had for some 25 years. It may have been coincidence but the first Black Spot I had came last year when I bought a Terracotta at Hampton Court Flower Show. This year it has been rampant but with constant attention, fingers crossed, I now have it more or less under control. I will be ready for it next year!
