Siberian Larch, Fall Splendour

Siberian Larch, Fall Splendour

Young larch at the Bot Garden. I could see them across a field and had to go have a good long look. Stunning right now, especially with our lack of snow.

Beautiful autumn colour

Is their colour caused by sunlight on them, or is their natural colour this gingery colour ?

These were so eyecatching, I couldn't pull myself away. This is about 3pm sun was still high in the sky.

Louise, the larch turn to this autumn color and then shed their needles, In spring the needles sprout again, a nice fresh green, and the new cones are rosy pink. They are really beautiful trees. Many call the native a tamarack.

Such an unusual colour, the first thing i thought when i saw them was 'they're windburnt' !

For years I though that these scattered in the forest were spruce beetle kills. until a few years past and I realized they changed to orange in fall and dropped their needles. I must have one now, such a delight.

I wish I knew the name of that tall plant between the trees. It wasn't labeled.
