Must be a good year for the blues as I've seen quite a few over the fields. They are so vibrant and very quick too so you did a good job of getting this photo, well done!!!

I've just found out this is the female, they usually have brown upper wings with a fringe of orange and black markings and this is what is called an 'intermediary' with part blue on the upper wings.

I suppose it's because male birds are always the showy ones that I assumed it had to be a 'he'.
