Finally caught up (genuine gardening blog I promise)

So having been away it’s take me all week to catch up with my garden jobs.

Finally got the rest of the nettle up although it’s taken flipping ages and I’m stung to bits.

I bought a a lovely new dahlia at the weekend, they seem to follow me home ;) if anyone can name it that would be fab.

I’ve also bought a couple of bird baths.

One sits it a gap under my laurel tree and the other hangs from the apple tree at the bottom of my garden. I have two pairs of robins in my garden and I love how friendly they are so thought they might like a little wash :)

Dads birthday today and I am having my parents over for dinner, nice to dress the table with some hydrangea blooms from my own gardening rather than having to buy flowers for the table :)

Enough inane ramblings from me :D x

Enjoy your birds !Everybody loves a robin!

They're madly friendly. They sit on my tools and I don't have the heart to move them so I have to use something else until they fly off lol

One fork for you and one for the robin, they'll always be with you when your turning the earth over or spreading the compost, they get so tame they have even been known to wait by your feet for the next sod to be turned, lol, the blackbirds get the same, they sit very close waiting for the juicy treats, can't really blame them can you, its a bit like the family waiting for you to dish the dinner up. Hope you can see the birdbath from your windows, its a real pleasure watching the birds splashing around.
Pretty table, I hope you had a lovely time with your parents, its nice to celebrate with the family....

It was a lovely evening thank you. Like to spend every minute I can with them. They have always given so much in every aspect that I like to give back as often as I can.

My birdbath is by the lounge window so I can see out. Its also opposite my reading bench in the garden so I placed it Where I knew I would see it best.

The Robins are gorgeous. I love them :D

Nothing inane about it ...
Your dahlia is pretty, and I love the colour of your hydrangea :) Home grown flowers are the best.
Nice that you've got robins. Gardens should be havens for wildlife.
Happy birthday to your dad ! :)

Lol, I was only gardening with my Robin yesterday. If I have spent a few days in a row in the garden, he will then sit in my eye view from conservatory and sing his head off. Hubby says he is nagging me to get out there and find him some worms. It's lovely having them keep you company in the garden, isn't it. Glad your dad had a good birthday. Your Dahlia is lovely. Can understand how it made it home with you. Table looks lovely too! :-).

I intend to quote you that the plant followed me home. Plants have a bad habit of doing that.

look at this for your dahlia. looks like Coral to me but see what you think.
garden coming on a treat.
after the mating season is over the robins will 'fall out' and become territorial again. so expect a bit of posturing and wonderful song as the defend their own space. females do it too ;o)

Thank you Seaburngirl, it does look like a Coral.

Both sides of the garden have there own water bath and feeders so I hope that will stop a full on Robin 'West Side Story' braking out lol

It's nice having wildlife around. My dad always had a robin and blackboard follow him around whenever he was in the garden. He loved it.

They don't come close to me, but that's probably due to my dog and 2 cats following me around instead. I just have to admire the birds from afar.

The dahlia is stunning and I like the birdbath.

I came home from work to find my first black bird merry splashing away...all he needed was some Radox !

Bird baths and bird tables are worth every penny they cost. You will really enjoy the birds that decide to visit once they know free bathing is around.

I do want to put some feeders up but want to get the right thing. As with plants I have no idea what I doing to encourage the birds lol !

RSPB website could help.

fab - thank you

Your garden is going to be a hub of activity, with inviting the birds to dinner,as well as your parents :o) I'm sure you will find the RSPB website helpful,Nat.but I think you will find most species like the sunflower hearts..especially Goldfinches,Sparrows and the Tit families..even our Robins will go to the feeders ,if there is nothing on the ground..I buy the dried suet and mealworm packs for them, and the blackbirds,in the colder months, but at this time of year, there is plenty of natural food around.. you don't need to spend a fortune on expensive specialist food..been there, and done that..and most of it was left to go mouldy..ah,the power of advertising ! of course, that is only my opinion..:o))

I am as always open to all advice....I love having my little feathered friends in the garden...my poor dog Buster isn't quite so keen...he's only little and the magpies and pigeons scare him lol
