Bridal thief !!

While tidying my garden around the ‘Bridal Wreath’ I was surprised to see lots of small bits broken off. The plant itself looked healthy enough so I wonderd what could be the cause.
The next morning I was washing up in the kitchen when I noticed the plant moving about. On closer inspection a goldfinch was busily pulling and tugging at it to break bits off !
No doubt he was out to impress his mate with a very special gift for their new nest.
He has returned on numerous occasions since…I just hope he leaves me some to enjoy.

Love the title!....very clever!

I wish I got these birds in my garden but never seen one! Amazing that you could watch him doing all that. Fascinating blog, thanks.

Lovely blog ..
Does he takes pieces off any other shrubs ?
or only from those with wedding-theme names ? ;o)

Thanks all, I was lucky to get the pics through the kitchen window before he disappeared again.I guess they are the same pair that were around last year but didn't notice if the plant was raided then.
I haven't seen him Terra so you could be right lol

They are lovely birds, deserted me this year but my youngest lives one road away from us across the childrens playground and she has lots of them visiting her garden this year, I have Jenny Wren under my waterfall though, lol. The birds here always shred my pampas grass, it always surprises me to see how much they manage to carry away in their little beaks, they work so hard when building a new nest..
Great photo's Nanjo...

How clever are our feathered friends ! the blue tits can strip a pampas feather in no time at all they do it to my neighbours lol.

I bet pampas makes great nest material! Aren't they cheeky though eh? Well, it must be the prettiest nest in the vicinity!

Isn't it a shame Lincs that we never get to see the end product after 'donating' the materials ?

I hope I get to see the offspring Scottish ;-)

I have seen lots of Bluetits in the garden this year Karen but don't know where they are nesting.

They most definately are Kidsgran, I've had sparrows stripping the soft outside off the liners of wall baskets- luckily I lined them with black plastic or the contents would have been on the floor !

Thanks Louisa, I would love to see it !
