Hi Everyone

Just a quick blog as I am at work but I have been without a PC since saturday as my OH was caught on a scam. Basically a company phone (from India) saying they are dealing with a problem with microsoft pertaining to your PC and after lots of palaver they get you to consent to going in remotely to carry out a fix. I only came in to see OH had let someone on remotely and then they wanted money for sorting out the problem (which doesn’t exist) I told him to stop the remote access but we didn’t know what damage they have done or how much information they may have got from the PC. We have now got it being looked at by my daughters BF who has his own Computer Co. The company is www.comantra.net and they have been pulling this scam since about September this year. Just thought I would let you all know to be aware:(

Will catch up with everyones news when I get my PC back. Merry Xmas to everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR:)

I think the answer is not to open anything you don't trust and ask for a telephone number to call them back on before doing anything over the telephone--- reading these scams on Goy has made me very wary-- thanks friends.....:o)

so very sorry the *rotters* have caught you....:~(

RE any unsolicited calls I recommend the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) and also do the MPS as well. Its legit. What does this mean? any UK company making calls must run this list and not call. Its a legal requirement so they cannot, period.

Takes about a month they say to go through the system but if you get a call you just says this is a TPS number and hang up. And if its from outside the UK its bogus anyway or if there is no 1471 its also bogus.

The exception is any company you are currently dealing with who 'claim' an 'implied' right to solicit you, so opt out individually with them for anything unsolicited. If you write to them withdrawing any consent they then have to comply also by law. I would suggest also for any big corporations state you do not consent for any of your data to be held outside of their UK office and be used only for your current service and for no other reason unless with written consent.

I'm on the TPS Stevie and I still get them! I either say quickly 'not interested' and hang up or 'hang on a sec' then i LEAVE THE FON OFF THE HOOK AND GO ABOUT WHATEVER I WAS DOING LOL

Well just say TPS very loudly and hang up. The last one I had was some time ago now (dont get any now touch wood) It was obviously some random scammer from china so I just did my best Liam Neelson impression but saying I was a communications expert and I had already logged his details. I was as threatening and as menacing as possible and then very slowly hung up

We've been getting this call for several weeks now. Just tell them to go away, or something similar.

We have started getting 'cold calling calls' (sounds like a film title) here in France.
They usually call between noon and 2pm and between 6pm and 7pm.
I've started answering the phone in English if it rings between those times; if it's 'legit' I switch to French but, if it's a 'cold-caller' and the English response hasn't deterred them, "Juh no Comprendeeze pass" with an atrocious English accent always works.
