Carnage in the yard!

5 comments

Well, I was hoping for a little rain today and got much more than I bargained for!
We had one heck of a storm that dumped over 1 inch of rain and blew everything to pieces! Here’s some of the damage. One of my Mammoth Sunflowers was broken off near the ground. The winds whipped at over 60mph for a few minutes and this big guy lost the battle with the wind:

Other damage was the bird feeder pole that was bent over:

I managed to shoot some video of a good rainstorm gone bad and uploaded to Youtube here Click to view video
At about 1:00 into the 2 minute video, the rain got angry and started tearing up all of my plants in the backyard! I wasn’t sure if it was a “downburst” or a small “twister” driving the wind, but it was unmerciful!

I had to move to the front of the house because the back patio was getting nuked by horizontal rain and wind. This other video was shot out of the garage and will give you an idea of how severe the wind was. My poor new trees in the front yard were bending over, but never gave up because of their massive root systems. {Planted organically of course}
Here is the front yard video

What a day! I’m still cleaning up and surveying which plants fared well and which ones didn’t.. :-(

The links have been corrected to the "public viewing" mode and should work great now! When I posted them the first time, I was logged into my Youtube account at the same time and "dat don't werk"! {chuckle}
It should work great now.. :-)
Just scroll up and hit them again.. That storm tore my backyard and container garden a new one. :-(

They certainly were "unreal" to quote yourself. Thanks for that N2. Savage comes to mind! ! !

I've just seen your videos - you certainly had one heck of a storm there! We had something similar here in July with a really bad storm & the rain bouncing off the walls, roofs & cars so hard it looked like steam! I wish it had occurred to me to take a video of it but I was so enthralled by it that it didn't occur to me at the time. :(

I got a huge amount of water for the yard, but it tore up a lot of plants. NOT the kind of rain that I was hoping for..
I'm still fixing up perennials and amending the torn-up plants.. We'll see how they recover.. :-)
