Agapanthus in the best light.A short blog.

A few of us will be dividing the Agapanthus when the flowers have died down, especially when the containers look full.I have only ever planted them in pots ,never in the ground,
Reading the article in ‘The Garden’ magazine, the deciduous Agapanthus are quite happy to be planted in a border with good light with no tall neighbours.Light reaching the bottom of the clump is a factor determining good flowering. Mixed with daylilies ,grasses and Crocosmias sounds an attractive planting scheme.
The evergreen ones are happier in containers….
Hope this throws some light on growing these beautiful plants….I’ve certainly learnt a lot.

the only problem I have is I'd love them in the border but what do I take out to put them instead!

Hope you can slip them in somewhere, Bathgate...I don't look forward to dividing and removing them from their pot.

Thanks for this information, My Agapanthus, although small, has never flowered. I have been keeping it in a perspex shelter but maybe it needs to be outside where it can get more light.

Thanks for the info Julia! My agapanthus are going to be hard to separate as they have been in pots and troughs for years and have only split them once. But now, if you remember that I am going to remove the enormous grass from the front and then thought I would plant a lavender in its place , am wondering if I should plant some Agapanthus! Decisions, decisions!

Beautiful plants, I've white in one pot, blue in another and a twister, which is blue and white, in another. Lovely blooms this year, however, twister, which I bought in flower a local GC, is still growing, must be me!
