With Most Of The Garden Work Completed For This Year...

It’s time to let it coast downhill into the fall and let it come to a dead stop when winter arrives. This means I will have more time to spend in my garden oil painting shed.

I like to paint portraits in oils and prefer not to do them in my home in order to avoid the permeating odor of turp and oil media spills. So in a cool part of the garden I placed a shed where I could bump into and spill, splatter and step on and squish tubes of oil paint to my hearts delight. In the next photo you will see the shed with the doors open and if you look to the far left you will see part of the Zen Garden that I previously wrote a blog on.

The next photo gives you a closer look inside, of course I have spot lamps and a fan for good ventilation. I have started a new painting of two ladies who desired me to place them on canvas from a photo they gave me which you see on a table easel to the far left. The painting has just been started and is in what is known as the “blocking out” phase.

This painting will take about three months to complete and probably another 3 to 6 months to dry before it’s ready to hang….oils are slow. At my age I am reminded of a famous portrait of my country’s first president George Washington which was placed in most schools at one time. In it was Washington’s head and shoulders which appeared to be above a white cloud located below them. I learned later that it was not a white cloud but the unfinished lower part of the portrait….the artist had died before he was able to complete it:(

I'm with Ange, I love your painting shed! It's a lovely looking addition to your garden! It's like a teeny tiny New England home! Look forward to seeing your oil paintings..

Thanks Kate...I have a few posted in my photos section. I don’t think it will take you long to find them.

Yes, I agree with Kate and Anget! So talented and I like your painting shed!
I used to do water colours a few years ago, but don't seem to have the time now!
You will have to show us the finished picture!
