Brilliant- sorry Barry, you've met your match there...

Hi, I was told by a friend that if you want to stop squirrels eating from your bird feeder that you should mix chopped dry chilli in it. He said that birds can't taste it but squirrels can and gives them a nasty shock. After a couple of times they stop going for your bird feeder. I've not tried it as I don't have any squirrels so can't say if it works.

They lifted the top which Barry has now wired into place. The female squirrel got in through the side believe it or not. They are very entertaining......they just eat too much. Round two begins.

They really are very clever .
We had a red squirrel pass through this afternoon but never touched the feeders.

So enjoy watching our red squirrels.

This battle has been going on for years......Barry likes the challenge.

This made me smile Linda, if the female got in thru the side I hope the male doesn`t now get stuck trying to follow her.

He got in the top by lifting the lid and removing the wire. Honestly he just looks at us if we stand at the window.

Linda they are an absolute menace here they dig holes bury peanuts other people feed them, Oak trees come up from acorns worst of all Conker trees in all manner of containers, and then there are Badgers who enjoy undermining paths and of course foxes there was one wandering about a couple of hours ago, took no notice of me being there .They move quick if Jamie shows up though.

We have a lot of foxes here too Brian....no badgers tho'.

Never heard of chopped chilli with the bird food Jen, but I'm willing to try it, I've had to remove the birds fat ball feeder, at the moment there is only one baby squirrel in my garden but the little bu.....gr ate them at an almighty rate. ?.

Friend who told me was a small chilli farmer back in kent, he would put whole chillies in his bird feeders. Used to write for nature mags and do radio interviews and said about the chillies on them as well. We walked our dogs together and he swears that chillies work. Fingers crossed that they do for you.

Linda don't think it possible to have two you can have one or twenty, unless of course yours are you know ,better not write it in here.lol

I have heard of the chilli concept but we don't want to get rid of the squirrels we just want them not to take all the bird food. We only see the same two squirrels Brian. They perhaps have family members but we don't see them.

Smart squirrel but then they are clever. Anyone here recall an advert where a squirrel had to go through numerous "traps" in order to get the food at the end? Always enjoyed watching that but can't remember what the advert was for!!

Oh yes, it was for Carling Black Label. Google 'TV ad. featuring squirrel' for a journey back to 2007 ... with the theme tune of 'Mission Impossible' ... just great!

I am sure our squirrels are on Carling Black Label. :0)
