Am I lawn mad?

It is going dark here in Glasgow….it is cold but, it has been dry and sunny all day. Now I have still to put an autumn feed on my back lawns and today was to be the day. Up until now I had forgotten so…….I was chatting on GoY when I remembered. I rushed out and did the deed. The weather here is turning and perhaps today was my last chance. I am sure you all understand. :0)

Lawn get to you like that San. Once you start trying to improve it.......it drives you mad, mad, mad! I've kind of given up now I think and that's probably a good thing, both for me and the lawn!

Nothing wrong with looking after your lawn!! everything looks better with a lush green lawn as a backdrop(or foreground).I'm afraid I very seldom get to scarifying and autumn feeding these days!I used to top dress every autumn religiously.....now , that is hard work!! But works like nothing else on a lawn!

Not sure we could cope with grass growing any faster than it does already, so no autumn feeding here!

I have resigned myself to having moss on my bottom lawn, a lot of it is my own fault as its overshadowed by the very big hawthorn hedge, I keep threatening to lop the top off but then I watch and enjoy all the birds coming and going and haven`t got it in me to destroy their homes, also with two huge dogs who have to be allowed into the main garden sometimes it does get a battering at times, we do have a dogrun but its not fair to keep them in there all the time....Admittedly I have noticed the return of clover this year so that will have to be dealt with....

I'm pleased you got it done eventually :o) Better late than never lol ...

Thank you Paul. I know I get a bit obsessive ladies, but it gives me such pleasure. Is that a note of sarcasm Hywel? My lawn would be a large yellow area Steragram with brown patches and lots of moss so that the lawn mower would get stuck. :0)

Oh :o( sorry :o( Did you think I was being sarcastic ... :o( I am never that :o(( I hate it when people are sarcastic to me .. so I make it a point never to do the same :o( I was just pleased you got it done, that's all :o((
Sorry if I've offended you :o(

I got tired of looking at the large green plastic container on the garden shed shelf......so I tipped what was left onto the mossiest bits of my lawn last week. The mossy bits went dark and then it rained, so I was pleased. The hideous green cannister went into recycling. This thread has echoes of Mapp and Lucia, which I am quite enjoying reading currently, as it cost next to nothing, on the dear Kindle, and is really quite amusing.

I am now getting 'obsessed' again, and thinking of asking Paul to advise me on an annual 'top dressing' lol!

It is catching Karen. Oh Hywel....I love a bit of fun. Please don't think I am offended. :0) Glad the mossy bits went dark Dorjac. That will teach them. :0)

I like lawns like yours Sanbaz......mine used to be part of a meadow I think and we just remove the large weeds.....especially the thistles....ouch!

16 Oct, 2012

lol Pam, thistles are lovely in the right place, but glad im anot alone with my wildflower lawn(weeds) lol

I am really into thistles this year......tho' not in my lawn. :0)

It has rained so much at night since I put the stuff in the green cannister on the mossy bits on the lawn that it's now very green. So pleased with that. Difficult to know when to stop the mowing. One last trim in November......helps to mince up the leaves as well.

My grass has all but stopped growing. It has been frosty in the morning twice this week so I think that has slowed it down. I have a blower for the leaves Dorjac....it is great. :0) I think the stronger the grass is at this time of year the better it will do in the winter battle against the moss.

So much further down south, and it doesn't know when to stop growing Linda. Our grass cutter friend has disapeared on quite a long cruise and will probably do one more cut after he returns. I have a lot of leaves to pick up, but most go under the shrubs in the borders. I tried couple of those loose woven sacks last year and they just disapeared along with the leaves.

I am one of those 'grass cutters' Dorjac(well, I look after my customers' gardens generally) but, although the grass is still growing a little here in the south east, the rain just won't stop this year so, yet again, no work today as it's too wet! the story of my year, I'm afraid!

Paul, I have never known such a wet summer here in the west of Scotland. It is one of the problems I have had in relation to my lawn. At times it has felt more like a bog. I am sorry Paul, it must be very difficult to make a living when the weather is so bad. As a portrait painter I need lots of light, which has been in short supply too.
I have a lot of leaves too Dorjac. Once my leaf bin is full I put the rest into black bin bags.....makes great compost. :0)
