Unruly but still colourful....

As you know I have been out of action as regards my garden in the last three weeks, you all know how quickly the garden takes over amd does its own thing when left alone for a while, mine is definitely at what you’d call an unruly stage but still plenty of colour…

Its been a lovely autumn day as you can see in my pics “I NEEDED A GARDENING STINT” so with the help of my favourite blue-eyed boy name of George who had said to me last week," Nannie have you got some jobs I can do ?" I now have loads of apples picked and stored, the cucumber and tomato plants removed and a reasonably tidy bottom greenhouse …

Anybody fancy an apple pie, the birds are in for a fruitful winter treat, there are still more to pick but George couldn’t reach them, he was very good and with a bit of tuition from Nannie even pruned a few of the crowded branches out for me as well as then doing the tidying up ……………………………………………………… HOWEVER…………………………………………. The top g’house has had what is best described as a mad collapse, lol !!!!!!!!!! My hubby has kept my toms watered without drowning them this time but he knows absolutely nothing about how to care for them the consequences you can see in the next pics…

You cannot tell in the pics but in amongst all the foliage they are abslutely loaded with good healthy toms and that is all that matters really, now I can move about easier I’ll do another stint tomorrow and remove some of that jungle ….

Its great to see you have been able to do a stint even if its only organising others, you`ve had plenty of produce to harvest, and your top greenhouse made me giggle .... love your trifid tomato look.

Well done George! Your garden still looks good Lincs despite not being able to get much done. It's good to read that you are managing to get a little done - as they say, every little helps ;)

Glad you managed to fight your way through the tomato jungle! You have some lovely photos there - the roses against the blue sky are worth making into greetings cards. Its good to hear you are recovering.

Thankyou M'land and Costas, the roses are doing really well this year..
Stroller I' ve been out thee today and thinned out a lot of the foliage and stopped the tops, mind you finding the tops was a tad difficult, lol...
Pansy I thought I had lost them all as they took an age to show themselves.
G'mage I'm freezing as many as I can, I've never actually made chutney myself, I always used to supply my relatives with the produce in exchange for a jar as only hubby eats it and a jar lasts him ages but I might give it a try...
i think George would have helped me anyway but at the moment he is trying to earn one hundred pounds in time for xmas, he wants one of these new gadgets that is going to cost £250, his mum and dad have had a word with us and we agreed to buy it between us on the condition that George pays £100 as well, he earned £3 hoovering and polishing his aunties car before he cut my grass and is proud of the fact that he earned himself £20 in two days.......
Scottish it felt good just deadheading, I'm a right ole grouch when not getting my hands dirty in the garden..

I've got a niece in a similar position Lincs - it cost me a fiver to have the paths swept, some stones piled up in the back of the garden and some pots washed.

Yes Scottish my jobs cost me a fiver each day as well, mind you as things are with me at the moment it was money well spent, he's already asked what jobs he can do next weekend, lol, weather permitting I might let him tackle staining my sheds, I've had the stain for years but never seem to get around to doing them myself, I'd have to kit him out in an old pair of grandads overalls though and plenty of rubber gloves in stock, I personally think its good to encourage them to earn some money when they are old enough it makes them appreciate things more, even if it means conjuring up a few jobs along the way, lol....

You have such an amazing garden, Lincs! So many wonderful roses set against a deep blue sky - what could have set them off any better! :-))

So many kinds of lovely flowers at the close of summer as well! You must be very happy in such a garden, I would be!

It's good your grandson is helping you out so much! My wife & I do all we can to let our 2 grandkids "help" us out! Even if it means the job takes much longer & often has to be done a 2nd time. Let them sweep the floor or pass the mop over it or carry the plates to the kitchen, etc! Time will come when we will be begging, threatening, cajoling, persuading them to help out or at least do what they should!

They like to "water" my plants on the balcony - trouble is I have to remind them time & again they are "plants" not "fish"! LOL!

But we LOVE them to bits! It makes little difference that things are not done the way they should be - they will learn, with time!
