Persistent buds

I was out this morning clearing some more leaves from the garden and I am pleased that some rockery plants are persistently budding and blooming.
I’m sure it’s likely due to the ‘milder’ weather up until recently.
We’ve had no snow or extreme cold in the city, so far. However, the last couple of three days have seen 2 degrees to 5 degrees max. Frosty mornings, icy air, crisp blue skies, woolly hats and mittens.

yes it has been a bit crazy weather wise. We did have snow in Skidby but not enough to make a snowball!

I also have roses in bud and lot of bulbs poking through.

Kate, You have shamed me into thinking I must get on with removing soggy leaves etc from the borders. Your plants look fresh and lovely. We've been relatively mild, too. (Must be careful saying that.) Due some frost, even snow, apparently. Still, one month of winter nearly over!

I can grow icicles and that's about it. Lucky you to have so much color at this time. Happy New Year Kate!

Eileen, I noticed that there were pocketted areas of light snowfall, in the area. I noticed lots of bulbs were shooting up too. Some snowdrops have little buds on, nice to see!
Ange, I felt I had to go out and do something, OH was chopping wood for ages and he’d been out with the blower/sucker thing to get in at the leaves stuck in shrubbery. I did a bit of clearing elsewhere in the garden. I’ve tidied around the garden too, inspecting for any new bulbs shooting through and also pleased with some of these plants still budding and flowering..thank you for your kind message.
Paul, do you still have a beautiful blanket of white magic around your house? We are lucky here to have some mild weather and some colour still persisting into December.
Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
Happy Hogmanay 🍾

Ange I never remove leaves from borders - its a DIY mulch that disappears by Spring and blackbirds enjoy turning them over looking for worms...
Yes its exciting seeing the bulbs peeping through. My Iris Reticulatas are looking as though they mean business and the daffodil shoots are beating the snowdrops - that's unusual! My roses (all one of them) have finally given up but they were great until the strong winds couple of days ago.

The snow has melted with the incoming mild weather, but more snow is predicted for Thursday yaaahooo! can't wait! lol!

Snow for Hogmanay! Sounds a white start to your New Year, Paul. You’ll be getting your sledge out!!!

I agree Kate, gardening is changing due to the climate, so many plants coming out too early, we woke to snow this morning, big cotton wool like flakes that soon turned everywhere peaceful white, it had been briefly beautiful, but now the rain is here and it’s dreary looking.

Its very dreary here no rain or snow but very wet everywhere, I haven't even been able to get on to sort out my dahlias, they lasted until just before christmas though so mustn't grumble, the heavy rain has finished off the roses now, it looks messy but I'm not a pristine gardener until springtime, I leave the perennials for all the little critters, good job because if I tried to tidy up I would sink into the mud and do too much damage, getting very antsy though Kate, I need a stint outside....

Happy Hogmanay Kate. Hope it's a good one and the start of better days!

It’s so true, Julien. The climate/weather has changed I’ve the years. When I lived in Scotland on the south west coast, back when I was much younger, I remember November being bad weather wise. Sooo cold, icy paths and such thick frost. Snow often came too. Now, my parents see more rain than anything. Plus it’s milder too.
The snow is so pretty to look at, I love the quietness of a fresh snowfall.

Sue, I know what you mean...we just want to get out and do some gardening. I think especially after this year. The weather is more driech here, really wet soil. We’ve had some sunny days, but it’s also been very damp. Everything is all starting to become soggy and brown. Roll on springtime!

Happy Hogmanay Paul! Oh I do hope we all see some positivity this coming year.

Nice to know your plants are surviving under the leaves. I'm glad it's mild and I think the plants are glad too :)

Thanks Kate. I was just discussing that with Andy in San Diego (Delonix1) now that the drought & horrible fires are under control. California finally got some sorely needed rain. It's nice to hear some good news for a change.

happy new year to you and your family Kate, lovely to see the garden still producing, we have got all the bulbs stating to poke through now so hopefully in a few weeks we shall start to see something

Hywel, I’m hoping they make it through - it’ll be a nice thing if they do! Fingers crossed the milder weather continues for longer!

Have to agree, Paul. California have had what feels like, a never ending period with devastating forest fire. There’s much so much tragedy with covid on top of it all. Surely this year can only be better..

Happy New Year to you, Kim and the family, Davey! Wishing you all the best of health for the coming months ahead.
Thank you, I’m pleased I’ve still some buds blooming now and then through the colder months which normally wouldn’t be. Plus! - it’s great to see signs of bulbs shooting up.
